Join the Flock: Steelhawks Searching for an Assistant Coach
VSB Ostrava Steel Hawks · European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL)
The Ostrava Steel Hawks are growing - and we're looking for the right person to grow with us. As we prepare for our inaugural campaign in the European Union College Hockey League (EUCHL), the club is opening a search for an Assistant Coach to join our staff and help shape the future of the program.
Job Description - Ostrava Steehawks - Assistant_Coach - Job_Description (June 2026)
This is a ground-floor opportunity with a brand-new college hockey league built for North American student-athletes chasing both a real degree and a serious path to professional hockey in Europe. If you love being on the ice, developing players, and building something from the first whistle, we want to hear from you.
What the role is about
Reporting to the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach is a hands-on, ice-focused role at the heart of our daily development. You'll help plan and run practices, lead drills and small-group work, and push our players to get better every single session. It's a part-time position of roughly 20 hours per week - built to fit around our training rhythm while keeping you fully involved with the team.
Day to day, that means working alongside the Head Coach to:
- Plan, organize and run practices - drills, systems and skill stations
- Lead practice segments and small-group sessions with clear, direct coaching
- Develop individual skills: skating, puck skills, position-specific work and conditioning
- Track each player's progress and help prepare the team to compete
- Support a positive, disciplined and respectful training environment
The schedule
- Hours: Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week
- Practices: Four (4) per week, mornings between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m.
- Games: A season of approximately 30–36 games, with attendance at games expected
Who we're looking for
A strong hockey background as a player, a coach, or both - and a genuine commitment to developing athletes. You should be able to teach clearly on the ice, communicate well with players and fellow staff, and bring reliability and energy to early mornings at the rink. Coaching certification and any safety/safeguarding credentials are an asset, and support may be available.
Above all, we're looking for someone who fits the Steelhawks way: industrial, fierce, united - competitive, team-first, and proud to represent both the club and VSB–Technical University of Ostrava.
Remuneration
This is a paid position. Compensation will be discussed during the initial application process.
