Steel Hawks Staff Travel to Gothenburg for Recruiting, Tour VSB Dormitories
OSTRAVA, Czech Republic — The Ostrava Steel Hawks continue to expand their international recruiting footprint, as staff recently traveled to Gothenburg, Sweden, one of Europe’s premier hockey markets, to evaluate talent and build relationships with players and coaches.
The visit to Sweden represents another key step in the organization’s commitment to identifying high-level players across Europe and building a competitive roster within the European Union Hockey League (EUCHL). Gothenburg’s reputation for strong player development and hockey culture made it a critical stop in the Steel Hawks’ recruiting efforts.
“Our goal is to identify players who not only have the skill to compete at a high level, but also the mindset to develop and take the next step in their careers,” said Zac Pearson, Director of Scouting for the Ostrava Steel Hawks. “Gothenburg is a proven hockey market, and it gave us the opportunity to connect with quality players and build relationships that will benefit the program long-term.”
Following their time in Sweden, Steel Hawks staff visited VSB – Technical University of Ostrava to tour student housing and dormitory facilities. The visit reinforces the organization’s focus on providing players with a complete experience that combines high-level hockey with strong academic opportunities.
“We’re building something that goes beyond just hockey,” Pearson added. “The ability for our players to live in a structured environment, pursue their education, and develop on the ice is a major part of what makes this opportunity unique.”
The integration of hockey and education remains a cornerstone of the Steel Hawks’ model, offering players a pathway to continue their development while preparing for life beyond the game.
As the Steel Hawks continue to build their roster and infrastructure, initiatives like this highlight the organization’s long-term vision—combining international recruiting, player development, and educational partnerships to create a unique and competitive platform for athletes.
