The Steel Hawks are proud to announce the signing of Goaltender Koy Sutherland for 2026-2027 Season

OSTRAVA, CZECH REPUBLIC – 12/29/2025 – The Ostrava Steel Hawks are pleased to announce that Canadian goaltender Koy Sutherland has committed to join the club for its inaugural season.

Sutherland, a 2005-born netminder from Grande Prairie, Alberta, joins the Steel Hawks after gaining junior-level experience in both Canada and the United States. A left-catching goaltender, he brings competitiveness, maturity, and a strong work ethic, and is expected to compete for significant minutes in goal as the organization prepares for its first season of competition.

“We’re very excited to welcome Koy to Ostrava as part of our inaugural roster,” said Zac Pearson Director of recruiting. “He brings the right mindset, experience, and commitment to development that align perfectly with what we are building as a new organization. We believe he will be an important piece as we establish our identity.”

Sutherland has previously played with the Edson Eagles (NJHL) and the Southern Alberta Mustangs (USPHL Premier), gaining valuable experience in both Canadian and U.S. junior leagues.

“It has always been a goal of mine to play hockey in Europe,” said Sutherland. “When I learned that I could pursue a university education while playing hockey with the Ostrava Steel Hawks, I couldn’t have been more excited. This is an incredible opportunity, and I’m very much looking forward to the 2026–27 season with the Steel Hawks while studying at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.”
